7 Ways to Recycle at Home
May 22nd, 2013 by Andreas Xavier in Environmental. Topics:Saving the environment is important. But a lot of people don’t know how. They think that tossing one empty soda can into the trash can instead of the recycle bin won’t make a difference. Consider this: each person living in America will produce about 600 times his or her weight in trash. In turn, this means that adults in the world will leave behind about 100,000 pounds of garbage for the next generation. That’s a lot of trash! If each person in America doesn’t start recycling now, the pattern will keep repeating itself. That’s why one person really can make a difference. Don’t know how? That’s where I come in! Here are 7 ways to recycle at home:
1. Save water. Skip the long showers. Skip the super hot showers as well. Stop spending hours watering your lawn. This will save water while reducing your water bill. Win-win!
2. Save energy. Leave your thermostat set a little higher in the summers and a little lower in the winters. I know this is hard, but it really will make a difference. To make monitoring your thermostat a little easier, you might want to think about an energy efficient thermostat with a home alarm. You can program it to turn up or down during specific times throughout the day so you don’t have to worry about it.
3. Save gas. Stop driving all over the place! Use a bike or simply walk to work. Save money on gas while keeping the environment less polluted.
4. No more bottled water. Tons of empty water bottles end up in the garbage, so stop purchasing them! They are expensive and simply add to the waste pile. Install a water filter to purify your water. It’s more environmentally friendly and less expensive.
5. Borrow. Don’t buy. By borrowing things like books and movies from the library, you are helping rid the world of excessive ink printed onto new books and new film produced for more movies. These things inevitably end up in the trash later.
6. DIY cleaning supplies. This is easier than you think! It’s healthier for your family and home. It also doesn’t litter the environment with toxic chemicals.
7. Don’t throw away your electronics! Recycle them to help prevent the mercury level in your phones and computers from increasing in our earth.
There you go! It’s really that simple to recycle and save our planet. Quit adding to the problem and start being a part of the solution. It’s easy with these simple steps!
